Watu, Sulawesi, Indonesia | Aerial Photography

I have a great opportunity and experience to join this expedition and do some aerial photography.  Before this expedition, I had no practical experience of aerial photography. The whole session is about 30 minutes and conducted from Fokker Plane and circulating Watu above 1000ft, Sulawesi, Indonesia town. The only lens I brought over is 28-70mm (sigh … I should bring tele-lens together).

The number one killer in aerial photography is motion sickness, particularly when composing images in your camera’s view finder while moving about the site in an aircraft.Aerial photographer should be physically fit (trust me! It is very exhausted)

Helicopters make for much better aerial photography than plane. Make sure you turn auto focus off. Choose an ISO that will give you the highest shutter speed. Bring along Polarizing filter and Skylight filter (I seldom use, because Shoot a lot more than you think you’ll need to. Discuss thoroughly what you want to do with the pilot before you leave the ground. One thing that I did not see anyone else address is motion sickness. If you keep your eye looking through the viewfinder all the time, you may start to get motion sickness. If this occurs, minimize the amount of time you are looking through the viewfinder (my personal advice). Set your camera to it’s highest contrast, this is very important to show better detail and shadow.

Light After Tears – Rainy Window

I’ve been noticing how beautiful it is when it rains here. Especially from the view of your car windscreen with the colourful droplets cause by the cars light. It really make out a beautiful photos. Take out your camera and shoot randomly while you are stuck in the congested traffic or a long queue at the traffic light. No matter how you shoot, is either focus on the droplets or the car light it still shown a wonderful photos. Make sure you off your wide screen wiper while you are shooting.
